Brussel Sprouts

Brussels, Belgium

Aside from the sweeter things in life like chocolates and waffles, Belgium is also known for its Brussel sprouts.  They have been coming from this very city for over 400 years, but that still doesn’t compare to the 220,000 tons of chocolate that are produced here every year.  That is enough for each person living here to have 22 kilograms of chocolate per year.  And for those music lovers out there, the saxophone was invented here in Belgium in the 1840’s by Adolphe Sax.

However, aside from these sweet and charming inventions and production lines, the same cannot be said for one’s safety.  Due to the attacks on the EU (European Union) Capital, there was a huge military presence around every corner.  I mean, even at the arena there were military members stationed all around and in one way it made us feel safe and in another it made us really wonder what we didn’t know.

Keeping on high alert with all of our senses, we made our way around the city to find that there was a lot of shopping in almost every direction and the Gothic Churches that surrounded the city’s Market Square were absolutely stunning.  The colorations of the stone used to construct these stunning features of the city’s skyline were absolutely beautiful at night when the lights shown upon them.

And even though most of the days we were trying to dodge the rain drops, we still managed to make it out to see what the city and surrounding area had to offer.  Not only was there an atomic cube that can be seen from the sky flying over the city, but there was even a Stephanie Square!  Needless to say, I was a little excited to see that since it was close to my birthday and all.

There was even time for a little celebration this week to make up for last week.  We had a dark day after we opened so it was perfect timing if you ask me.  We made our appearance at a very well-known landmark in the area that felt very homey in itself.  There was definitely something for everyone here and it was a nice, almost cozy-type place to hang out for the night while the rain was coming down outside.

And just how Belgium left its mark on us, we were also able to leave our mark at the arena, just like so many other shows do.

But before we leave, we had to have our Belgium waffles and take in one last performance with the most amazing crowds.

Thank you Belgium!  Now bring on the warmer weather, sunshine, and Spanish!   We were off to Madrid, Spain!
